Sustainability

ecocut portable solar trailerEcocut is a truly sustainable organic lawn care service. All of our mowers and hand tools are charged by renewable energy captured by solar panels on our trucks and trailers. Any emissions associated with powering our biodiesel equipment or driving our trucks are offset with verified vehicle emissions offsets purchased from Planetair.

Clean. Green. Organic. For Our Future.

The Lawnmasters at Ecocut have been known to use a good old fashioned push mower for those hard to reach areas, like walkways and around shrubs. And we only offer children and pet friendly organic fertilizers, pest controls, and weeding options to protect our water supply. We do all of these things because we believe that being environmentally friendly should begin with your front lawn. Clean air lawn care is here now!

No Sunshine? No Problem!

The Ecocut portable solar generators store enough energy to keep our mowers and trimmers going for 2 weeks without any sun. So there’s no need to worry about whether or not we can perform the service on your lawn. And in the event that we should run out of power, which is highly unlikely, every truck is equipped with reel push mowers that are powered by our GrassMasters (professionally trained staff).

Our Solution Compared To The Conventional Gas Mower:

We Are Clean, Quiet & Renewable

We use clean, electric equipment powered by renewable energy. Electric mowers emit 3,300 times less hydrocarbons, 5,000 times less CO, one-fifth as much NOx as gas lawn mowers.

Conventional Method ↓

They Are Dirty, Loud and Resource Intensive

Small engines contribute 5-10% of the nation’s air pollution.

We Offset Our Emissions

We run our larger mowers on locally produced biofuels. All of our greenhouse gas emissions are offset by wind power and carbon offsets purchased from Planetair to ensure our entire operation is carbon-neutral.

Conventional Method ↓

Contributes to Global Warming & Poor Air Quality

Gas lawn mowers consume 1.7 billion litres of gasoline annually. A 1000 square foot lawn generates 300 pounds of clippings annually, rapidly filling up landfills.

Did We Say Quiet and Renewable?

Electric equipment is 50 - 70% quieter than gas-powered lawn equipment. Our electric equipment is charged using solar panels mounted on our trucks and our trailers.

Conventional Method ↓

Noisy & Unsustainable

Contribute 93 times more smog-forming emissions that 2006 cars The average gas lawn mower runs at 100 decibels – anything over 90 decibels causes hearing damage.

We Produce Zero Emissions

Emissions are reduced to zero when run on renewable energy.

Conventional Method ↓

Big Polluters

Pollutes the same as 40 late model cars. Emits the same amount of hydrocarbons (precursors to ground-level ozone) as an SUV driven 23,600 miles.

Natural & Organic

We mow at a height that maximizes water conservation and nutrient uptake. We now offer an all-natural, organic treatment & fertilization program to ensure your yard is beautiful and safe for your children, pets, & waterways.

Conventional Method ↓

Wasteful & Unsafe

Many lawn services mow at a height that burns the grass, wastes water, and promotes weed growth. Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides leach into waterways, create yards unfit for children & pets, and deplete the soil’s organic matter.

Our Equipment

The GrassCutters use cordless electric mowers, trimmers and blowers powered by clean renewable energy generated by solar panels mounted on our trucks and trailers. We also use Reel push mowers for smaller hard to access areas like pathways and gardens. There’s no gasoline, no oil, and no pollution. Just clean air, less noise, and green grass. Clean air lawn care is here now!

Greenworks is an official partner!

We use the full line of 40V lithium ion cordless equipment from Greenworks to service our clients lawn care needs.

Battery Recycling

In the interest of continuing our stewardship of preserving the environment, The GrassCutters use Call2Recycle® when our batteries no longer hold a charge. Call2Recycle is the only free rechargeable battery and cell phone collection program in North America. Since 1994, Call2Recycle has diverted 50 million pounds of rechargeable batteries from the solid waste stream and established a network of 30,000 recycling drop-off points. Advancing green business practices and environmental sustainability, Call2Recycle is the most active voice promoting eco-safe reclamation and recycling of rechargeable batteries and cell phones. Call2Recycle is operated by the non-profit Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC).

Vehicle emission offsets contribute to green energy initiatives

You will see this sticker on all of our trucks

A "Vehicle emission offset" or “carbon offset” is an emission reduction credit from another organization’s project that results in less carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than would otherwise occur. Carbon offsets are typically measured in tons of CO2-equivalents (or 'CO2e') and are bought and sold through a number of international brokers, online retailers, and trading platforms.

For example, wind energy companies often sell carbon offsets. The wind energy company benefits because the carbon offsets it sells make such projects more economically viable. The buyers of the offsets benefit because they can claim that their purchase resulted in new non-polluting energy, which they can use to mitigate their own greenhouse gas emissions. The buyers may also save money as it may be less expensive for them to purchase offsets than to eliminate their own emissions.

Many types of activities can generate carbon offsets. Renewable energy such as the wind farm example above, or installations of solar, small hydro, geothermal, and biomass energy can all create carbon offsets by displacing fossil fuels. Other types of offsets available for sale on the market include those resulting from energy efficiency projects, methane capture from landfills or livestock, destruction of potent greenhouse gases such as halocarbons, and carbon sequestration projects (through reforestation, or agriculture) that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The GrassCutters buy verified carbon offsets from Planetair, a not-for-profit service offered by the Unisféra International Centre. These offset any carbon we produce with our trucks and our bio-diesel equipment.
